Solar Energy
DDR has installed and activated over a dozen solar arrays on the rooftops of our shopping centers. This program has radical environmental benefits by reducing harmful byproducts associated with traditional energy production. The company’s active arrays and arrays under construction in New Jersey and Colorado encompass over 340,000 square feet of roof space and will generate more than 2.6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per year. Over 20 years the sites will generate enough energy equivalent to power more than 4,000 homes for one year. Clean energy use at the New Jersey properties alone is equivalent to taking 3,000 cars off the road. Solar energy services provider SunEdison has the rights to deploy additional solar energy systems at over 200 DDR shopping centers throughout the continental United States and Puerto Rico.
"SunEdison is proud of our partnership with DDR," said Jaime A. Smith, Vice President of Sales for SunEdison. "We look forward to the continued development and deployment of the solar program."
DDR was honored by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) with a “Best of the Best” award for this innovative program.
